[size=30]It will save 80% of its energy expenditures .. Iraq is approaching the nuclear field, ”and identifies 20 potential sites for the construction of reactors .. What is the expected benefit?

    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

Today, Iraq is taking relatively calm steps towards entering the world of "nuclear reactors", for peaceful uses, which can be summarized more in the production of electrical energy, the most complex file that Iraq has been suffering from for decades, which raises questions about the benefit of this reactor and what it will provide to the country, especially in terms of electric energy. .

Complex site selection conditions .. 20 candidate sites
Initially, the Iraqi Authority for the Control of Radioactive Materials announced today, Thursday, that the National Committee for Nuclear Reactors is studying 20 candidate sites for the establishment of nuclear reactors in Iraq.
The head of the commission, Kamal Hussein Latif, said that “20 primary sites have been identified so far, and then globally approved scientific projection methods will be used to reduce them to 5 sites, after which only two of them will be identified, one of which is original and the other is alternative,” indicating that “the selection process was completed in two ways. Two accurate sciences through differential equations and weights, the first is the (Kenny) method, the second is the SITE method or the singular value, and by using the ArcGis system.
He stressed, "Near the completion of the report on choosing the site and sending it to the Prime Minister's Office."

He added, "The selection depends on two phases with the same goals, but for each stage the accuracy is higher to reduce the number of the elected lands, leading to a more accurate determination of the site, and then there is a final stage, which is the security assessment." What is preferred is that the nearest population center is 2.5 kilometers from the site, and that the number of residents in that area does not exceed 500 people per square kilometer, and that the community does not exceed 65,000 people 30 kilometers away.

Latif stated, “With regard to the seismic nature of the region and earthquakes, the earth must be free of tectonic plates and no earthquake has been recorded more than 2 Richter during the past 50 years, and it must be flat ground and stable soil that is not eroded with torrents and there is no rise or A mountain, a large plateau, or a valley for a distance of 20 km from the site, because the heights together with the rain may cause the erosion of massive torrents of water on the site. It is also preferable that the height of the site does not exceed 350 meters above sea level for calculations of boiling and evaporation of the reactor water.

    What is an electric reactor?
Iraq relies on producing most of its electrical energy from electrical stations operating on gas, which Iraq spends billions of dollars annually on its production and investment of some of it, burning the other, and importing other quantities from Iran, to provide it and then operate the electrical stations.

Economists believe on this basis that Iraq is losing not only the gas it burns without investment, but it loses even the invested gas it burns to generate electric power instead of benefiting from it by selling and exporting it.
While Iraq needs about $ 2.5 billion annually to buy Iranian gas to run its power stations, this cost is equivalent to building a nuclear power plant with a capacity of 1 kW.
The electrical stations operating on gas are considered to be very expensive compared to the electrical energy generated by the nuclear reactor, and some reports indicate that it may reach more than 15 times.
For example, one kilogram of uranium is able to produce an amount of energy equivalent to burning 20 thousand kilograms of coal, in addition to the enormous harmful carbon emissions that result from this burning, and due to the high prices of natural gas and its reach to the limits 10 dollars per million thermal units, and the continued escalation of oil prices, reaching the limits of $ 70 a barrel, made nuclear energy a lifeline for many countries of the world, so that some of these countries considered that their acquisition of nuclear technology became more like an issue of existence or non-existence.

Speaking of the gas that Iraq is working on producing its electricity from, the cost of production by gas and oil reached about eight cents per kilowatt hour, which is five times more than the cost of production by nuclear energy, that is, depending on the data of the World Bank, which confirms that Iraq has incurred 2.5 One billion dollars, and if this number is divided by 5, then Iraq will need to generate the same electrical energy generated by importing Iranian gas, with only 500 million dollars, which means an 80% reduction in cost.
