On Monday (June 21, 2021), the Ministry of Planning confirmed that the selection of projects funded by the Social Fund for Development is within its “exclusive” prerogatives, and is coordinated by residents of the included villages, while stressing that it will not allow “electoral exploitation” of these projects.
In a statement received by IQ News, the ministry said, "The service projects that are being selected and implemented in the governorates covered by the financing of the Social Fund for Development, are selected, identified and implemented by the ministry exclusively, based on the priorities determined by the people of the included villages."
She pledged, "not to allow any interference or attempts from any party, in the process of selecting these projects, and it will not allow the Social Fund for Development projects to be employed for electoral purposes by this or that party."
And she added, "The Fund's project teams continue to work professionally and faithfully in all governorates away from any side effects, and to involve local communities in making decisions related to improving their living conditions, by selecting projects that meet the lack of basic services in their villages."
The Ministry of Planning called on “children of villages covered by the projects of the Social Fund for Development to communicate directly with the community mobilization teams or the Fund’s branches in the governorates, or by following the official channels of the Ministry, in order to see the details of the projects, the mechanisms for their selection and implementation procedures, and the role of the local community in the selection, implementation and follow-up process ".
