{Local: Al Furat News} The Ministry of Transport / the General Company for Iraqi Ports is preparing to receive two specialized ships within the Japanese loan projects.
And a ministry statement, a copy of which was received by the Euphrates News Agency, quoted the general manager of the company, Farhan Al-Fartousi, as saying: "Two naval units built at the expense of the Japanese loan authority will join the fleet of the Naval Control Department."
And he indicated, "The two ships have been completed in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and they are the pilot ship (Shatt Al-Arab) and can accommodate 25 marine guides of the type (Cattamran) in addition to 20 crew members.
He added, "The second marine unit is the enlightenment ship (FAO), which is specialized in erecting and capturing buoys in the canals, and its duty is also to furnish, illuminate and maintain the shipping lanes."
The director of the Naval Control Department indicated that "it is hoped that the two ships will arrive before the end of the current month of August, to enter service upon their arrival after the last trial sailing in the marine channels is completed."
