Earlier Friday, the German parliament agreed to extend the mission of German soldiers in Iraq for another nine months. A large majority of parliament deputies (555 deputies) voted in favor of the government's proposal, while 110 deputies opposed the proposal, and one deputy abstained from voting.
The German army is participating in the international mission against the "Islamic State" (ISIS) in Iraq, as well as in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) mission there. The mandate provides for a maximum of 500 soldiers to participate in the mission.
