The biggest coalition of the year reveals its share of the next government's portfolios
Shafaq News/ A source in the "Sovereignty" coalition revealed, on Tuesday, the number of ministerial portfolios that he will obtain in the next Iraqi government.
The Sovereignty Alliance is the largest coalition of political forces in the Iraqi parliament with 67 seats. It was formed between two alliances led by Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi and Azm headed by Khamis al-Khanjar.
The source told Shafaq News Agency, "The Sovereignty Alliance will get 6 ministries in the new government that will be formed after the election of the President of the Republic in next week's session."
He explained that "the ministries that will obtain a coalition of sovereignty, according to the political agreement with the forces that will form the new government, are defense, planning, education, trade, industry and the environment."
The source, who asked not to be named, added that "the ministries will be distributed between the alliances of progress and Azm, and each alliance will get 3 ministries," noting that "Mohammed Al-Halbousi's (Advance) alliance will get the ministries of defense, planning and environment, while the Khamis Al-Khanjar alliance (Al-Azm) will get. to the Ministries of Education, Industry and Trade.
A new president is scheduled to be elected on February 8, who will assign the candidate of the largest parliamentary bloc to form the next government.
Differences and tensions still exist between the Shiite forces affiliated with the coordination framework on the one hand and the Sadrist bloc on the other hand, regarding the candidate for prime minister and the form of the next government.
The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, seeks to form a national majority government, unlike the rest of the coordination framework forces, which demand a consensual government in which all political forces in Parliament participate, similar to previous sessions.
