    [size=45]On Sunday, Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi and US Ambassador to Iraq Matthew Tueller discussed the developments in the political situation in Iraq and the region.[/size]
    [size=45]A statement by Al-Halbousi's office stated that "the meeting also witnessed a discussion of bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to enhance the continuation of cooperation in the economic and security fields, as well as a number of issues of common interest."[/size]
    [size=45]According to the statement, "the importance of supporting the Iraqi forces in facing the challenges of terrorism was emphasized, according to the principles of the strategic dialogue."[/size]
    [size=45]Iraq is awaiting the election of the president of the republic after parliament failed to hold a session last Monday as a result of a lack of quorum due to its boycott by the Sadrist bloc, the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Sovereignty Alliance, as well as the Shiite coordination framework.[/size]

The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, has decided to exclude former Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, while the framework forces allied with al-Maliki are trying to resolve the dispute and settle matters to form a government.[/size]
