Al-Sadr's phone moves Amani Al-Maliki to obtain the position of Deputy Prime Minister

Baghdad / Tamim Al-Hassan
The whirlpools in the stagnant water that took place after the Al-Sadr-Al-Maliki call soon disappeared, due to a “suspicious” request from the latter. The leader of the Sadrist movement spoke for the first time "by phone" with the former prime minister after a rupture that lasted about 15 years.
Al-Maliki, who occupies the second number of seats in parliament among the Shiite forces, hopes to obtain several gains in the next government, including a personal position for him.
Political observers believe that the majority government called by "Al-Sadr" is still in place, and has not yet been affected by the new developments.
On the other hand, the parties to the coordination framework are waiting for Al-Sadr to return to throw another pebble into the pool of the political crisis to “respond to Al-Maliki’s request” and “reunite the Shiites.”
It was expected that the Sadrist movement would hold a conference yesterday, in response to the latest developments, but it seems that the conference was postponed for unknown reasons.
What did al-Maliki demand?
Information from the scenes, indicated to (range) that "Al-Maliki asked the leader of the Sadrist movement to assign him the position of Deputy Prime Minister."
This request, which was answered by the leader of the State of Law coalition, al-Sadr, came after the meeting of the coordination framework that followed the phone call between the two parties.
Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadrist movement, had made phone calls last Thursday with a number of political figures.
A statement to his private office said that al-Sadr "made phone calls to Masoud Barzani, Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, Head of the State of Law coalition Nuri al-Maliki and President of the Sovereignty Alliance Khamis al-Khanjar."
The statement indicated that the contacts took place "to discuss some important issues related to the current Iraqi situation."
The sources explain that "Al-Maliki's last request disrupted the move made by the leader of the Sadrist movement, and the coordination is still waiting for a response."
It seems that the "Coordination" is using the same style of the Sadrist movement, where Hakim Al-Zamili was appointed as Al-Halbousi's deputy, and Hassan Al-Kaabi before him.
Jaafar al-Sadr returns to the competition
The sources add that "the coordinating framework stipulated that al-Maliki be a deputy to Jaafar al-Sadr in the event that it was agreed upon to occupy the position of prime minister of the next government."
Al-Sadr's office statement did not reveal the details of what happened with al-Maliki, but leaks stated that the call lasted for 20 minutes, during which al-Sadr put forward the name of his cousin Jaafar al-Sadr.
Jaafar al-Sadr jumped into the picture of events again, after weeks of leaks that the current Prime Minister, Mustafa al-Kazemi, is the closest and only candidate.
Al-Kazemi published a “tweet” following these developments, which was interpreted as a speech relinquishing his ambition to obtain a second term.
"We have performed the duty for which we were called to serve the great people of Iraq," the prime minister said on Twitter.
And he indicated in the tweet that he was able to hold "free and fair elections", and laid "the foundations for overcoming economic crises", and also contributed to Iraq's rapprochement with the regional and international environments.
According to the information received by (Al-Mada), the leader of the Sadrist movement was "sending test balloons in the nomination of Al-Kazemi" to his opponents, to finally reach the acceptance that he is his uncle.
Jaafar al-Sadr is Iraq's current ambassador to the United Kingdom, and he resigned from Parliament after winning the 2010 legislative elections.
Quotas and pressures
The coordination framework had held a meeting at the home of Hadi Al-Amiri, the leader of the Badr Organization, after the "Al-Sadr" call.
According to the leaks, the "Coordination" can "agree to obtain 5 ministries, provided that 2 of them are sovereign, compared to 7 for the Sadrist movement (12 ministries for the Shiites), and a position for the owners."
The leader of the Sadrist movement had surprised everyone with the last step, but the sources indicated that a number of changes and international and local pressures contributed to what happened last Thursday.
It was considered that Dargham Majed, an activist in Babylon, was hit in the head in front of the house of a deputy affiliated with the Sadrist movement, after which he was hospitalized, as pressure from public opinion against the movement.
Al-Sadr and his allies in the Triple Alliance were subjected to pressure, after 3 rounds of the Federal Court in favor of his "coordinating" opponent.
The sources did not hide the existence of "Gulf, Iranian and Western interventions to bring the Shiites together," and the "Coordination" hinted last week that a heavy-caliber visitor will enter the crisis line soon.
In addition to accusations that Al-Sadr sought to “break up the Shiites,” accusations revealed by the latter a month ago in a video clip.
On the other hand, other readings explained what happened, that it may be an expansion of the tripartite alliance (the Sadrist movement, the Sunni forces, and the Kurdistan Democratic Party) into a quartet.
Imad Baglan, a researcher in political affairs, told Al-Mada: "It seems that the leader of the Sadrist movement has turned the equation and wants to include al-Maliki alone, without the framers."
Al-Sadr had clearly revealed in a video clip, last month, that he welcomed the coordination framework, with the exception of Al-Maliki.
And Baglan added: "If the movement were to enter all the parties to the coordination framework, this would mean torpedoing al-Sadr's project to form a majority government and turn it into a consensual one."
