The Najaf Sewers Directorate announced, on Thursday, the details of a major project regarding the water transport line from the Euphrates River to the Najaf Sea, which affects the lives of citizens, while indicating that it will eliminate pollution in the river.
The director of sewage in the province, Raysan Khazali, told the official news agency: "The Najaf Sewerage Directorate has always provided the necessary funds in coordination with the local government in Najaf governorate and members of Parliament to allocate sufficient funds for this project. The necessary funds were allocated and the project was referred by the Reconstruction Authority." .
He added, "The project will be in three phases: the first represents a lifting phase near the Palace of Culture and a conveyor line towards the airport, and the second phase is another lifting station near the airport yard and a conveyor line that reaches the Radwiya bridge, while the last represents a two-meter diameter conveyor line towards the central station."
Regarding the implementation period, Khazali stressed that "the duration of the work on the project will hopefully be completed within one year or less," noting that "there are pressures on companies to complete the work as soon as it affects the lives of citizens."
He continued, "The Najaf Governorate has been implementing this project since 2015 until now because it will contribute to eliminating pollution in the Euphrates River," explaining, "The companies started work on the project at the end of 2021 at an increasing pace in the implementation of the line, and it is hoped that it will be implemented within prescribed period.”
For his part, the representative of the companies responsible for implementing the project, Engineer Hussam Ahmed, explained to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the Bahr Al-Najaf and Al-Balqa companies are implementing a project to remove suffocation and remove pollution from the Euphrates River," noting that "the project consists of several stages that begin with From Al-Zahra’s fork and ends with the airport fork, while the second phase starts from the airport fork and ends at Al-Radwiya Bridge,” noting that “the project cost is eleven billion one hundred and forty million dinars for the stage.”
And he indicated, "The project is to raise water from the line connecting to the Euphrates River and deliver it to the station located near Al-Zahra's flank. This station raises the water in a second way through pumps to the second phase, which is located near the airport's flank, after which the second station begins to raise water through Pipes linking to the Razavi bridge," noting that "the third phase of the project falls on the shoulders of another company."
He stated, "The heavy water conveyance line has caused many problems for the citizens living near the Euphrates River in the Kufa district due to the increased pollution in the river's water." Ended 29/R77
