The Supreme Judiciary resolves the controversy over the dissolution of the House of Representatives, and Al-Maliki denies the call to do so

Today, Tuesday (22 March 2022), the Supreme Judicial Council confirmed that the mechanisms for dissolving the House of Representatives are restricted by the text of Article 64 of the Constitution, and other than that, no party, including the judiciary, has the right to dissolve parliament .
The Council issued a statement in which it indicated that the political system in Iraq is based on the principles and provisions of the 2005 constitution, and pointed out that the treatment of political problems is carried out according to “constitutional provisions only . ”
The Council clarified the summary of Article 64 that “the Council is dissolved by an absolute majority of its members with two options, the first at the request of a third of its members, and the second at the request of the Prime Minister and with the approval of the President of the Republic.”
The Supreme Judiciary pointed out that from this text it is clear that no other party, including the judiciary, in both its ordinary and constitutional parts, has the power to dissolve the House of Representatives because there is no constitutional or legal basis for this procedure. According to the statement.
This came in the wake of the political crisis that Iraq is going through with the incompatibility of the political forces represented by the Triple Alliance on the one hand and the coordination framework close to Iran on the other hand, to resolve the presidential candidate, which the constitution stipulates that the new president of the republic assign the candidate of the major bloc to form the new government.
Next Saturday, the Iraqi parliament is scheduled to hold a special session to choose a new president from among 40 candidates whose nomination papers were accepted about two weeks ago.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister and leader of the "State of Law" coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, denied, in a previous blog this morning, that the coordination framework sought to "dissolve the parliament and re-run the current parliamentary elections," while stressing the framework's adherence to the blocking third of parliament sessions.
