The representative of Basra Governorate, Adnan Al-Jabri, confirmed, on Thursday, that the deputies of the province will meet tomorrow to take an important decision regarding closing food entry ports in central and southern Iraq, while indicating that the central government's decision to close border crossings is not studied.

Al-Jabri said in an interview with the "Information" agency, that "the representatives of Basra Governorate will take an important decision, which is to put pressure on the executive government and the Minister of Agriculture to return and allow the import of foodstuffs during the meeting that will bring them together tomorrow, Friday."
He added, "The closure of outlets for entering basic foodstuffs, especially items of daily consumption by the central government, is an incorrect and ill-considered decision, and therefore affected the high prices of materials in southern and central Iraq," stressing that "the rise in prices directly affected the livelihood of the southern street, This added to their daily suffering.”
The member of the House of Representatives explained that “the central government is required to open all border crossings, and not to monopolize the import of foodstuffs through the ports of the Kurdistan region exclusively,” noting that “the current government’s decision to enter and exempt foodstuffs applies only in northern Iraq.”
Earlier today, the representative of the Al-Sadiqoon Parliamentary Bloc, Suhaila Al-Sultani, accused the outgoing government of double standards around Iraq's border crossings, noting that "the expired government is a weak government." Done/25 SR
