    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

With the beginning of the harvest and the marketing of the wheat crop, there were signs of wheat “escaping” from the hands of the state, amid the high demand for wheat globally, the activity of traders and smugglers, and the increased desire of farmers and peasants to sell their wheat away from the government.
Today, Saturday, the Ministry of Commerce announced the seizure of two cars loaded with local wheat in Salah al-Din Governorate, which were intended to be smuggled to Erbil.
The ministry said in a statement that "the control campaigns are intensified by following up on the issue of smuggling the local wheat substance and not transferring it between governorates to ensure national food security and to miss the opportunity for violators."
The statement added that "the two cars loaded with local wheat, which were seized under the control of Sheikh Ibrahim, the entrance to Salah al-Din governorate, were coming from the southern governorates, and their drivers intended to smuggle them to Erbil governorate, contrary to the instructions issued in this regard."
He added, "The two cars were seized and the loads were seized at the headquarters of the Organized Crime Department in the Dujail district, according to a fundamental seizure report, and the vehicle drivers were referred to the competent court to take legal measures against them."

The farmers refuse to hand over the wheat
These developments came to confirm the fears that were raised about the inability of the government to obtain the wheat crop from the Iraqi farmers, amid the urgent need for the state for the wheat crop to achieve food security, and the rise in wheat prices globally, as a number of farmers have already begun “refusing to hand over wheat to the state,” demanding By raising prices to one million dinars per ton, as well as delivering the money and “quick arrest” instead of keeping their dues deferred for long months.
“Yes Iraq” published a report earlier, in which it assumed that “despite the proactive decision taken by the Iraqi government to raise the prices of buying wheat from farmers, fears that the government will not obtain Iraqi wheat from farmers still exist.”
From about 450 thousand dinars per ton in the past years, the government decided to raise the price of a ton of wheat purchased from farmers to 750 thousand dinars per ton, which is a preferential price that exceeds international prices at the present time, but with the calculation of transportation costs, the price of an imported ton will almost equal the price Determined for the Iraqi farmers' wheat.
While the price in previous years amounted to 450 thousand dinars per ton, which represents about 300 dollars per ton, the prices of wheat globally are currently about 400 dollars per ton, which raised questions and fears about whether the Iraqi farmer would go to sell his wheat crop to foreign buyers. And not to sell it to the state and hand it over to silos.

However, after the government raised the purchase price of one ton of wheat to 750,000 dinars, or about more than $500 per ton, it is assumed that this “tempting” price will encourage farmers to sell their crop to the state, but with that, the government seems to fear not Peasants selling their wheat to the state still exists.

Where the Ministry of Agriculture urged farmers to hand over the wheat crop to government silos, and Agriculture Minister Muhammad Al-Khafaji stressed the need for farmers and farmers to hand over the wheat crop to government silos, especially after increasing the purchase price per ton of wheat to 750,000 dinars, as well as delivering seeds to seed purification laboratories affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture, which adds the rank bonus to the regular price and according to the ranks.”
Al-Khafaji indicated, according to a statement by the Ministry of Agriculture, that “this price is appropriate to some extent,” directing “the agricultural directors to urge farmers and farmers to hand over their produce.

According to statements by peasants and farmers, they refuse to hand over wheat to the state, demanding to raise the price of one ton to one million dinars, which is approximately 700 dollars, a price that exceeds the world price by more than 200 dollars, or 175%.
Questions are raised about the reasons for farmers refraining from handing over their wheat to the state and choosing to sell it to foreign parties and smuggle it despite the fact that the state’s prices are more than the international price, while it is likely that farmers will do this for their preference to receive their money immediately, even if it is at prices lower than government prices, which are usually What are you delaying the payment of farmers' dues?
