    The Ministry of Agriculture approved the summer agricultural plan for 2022 and in various irrigation methods, with an area of ​​1846000.

    The official spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture, Hamid Al-Nayef, stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "in preparation for the 2021 summer agricultural season and early, the summer agricultural plan was approved." for the year 2022”, noting that “the Permanent Joint Coordinating Committee between the Ministries of Agriculture and Water Resources met with all its members to discuss the summer agricultural plan proposed by the Ministry of Agriculture for the summer agricultural season 2022 and for the irrigated areas (rivers and irrigation projects) amounting to 2,750,000 acres.
    He added, "These came according to the indicators proposed by the directorates of agriculture in all governorates with the exception of the Kurdistan region," stressing that "the Ministry of Water Resources indicated that due to the continuation of the water deficit estimated at 60% from last year as a result of the continued decline of rains for the third consecutive season, it has been Agreement to reduce the proposed plan (2,750,000) dunams of rivers and wells to 1,846,000 dunams, noting that the reduction included the irrigated areas of rivers for the crops of maize, sorghum and rye, which reached the area to be cultivated (ten thousand dunums) distributed (6500) dunums in Najaf Governorate. And (3500) dunams in Al-Diwaniyah Governorate, in addition to the yellow and white corn. The reduced area was estimated irrigationally (900,000) thousand dunums, and thus the irrigation plan approved for this year is (892355) dunams.
     And he continued, "that is, by reducing 50% from the irrigation plan for the last year, which was (1860000) dunums of rivers and projects," noting that "the ministry addressed the lack of the irrigated plan with rivers by expanding cultivation on wells, and more than the plan of the last season, with a limit of (450,000) thousand acres. Thus, the approved total plan for rivers, irrigation projects and wells is estimated at (1846000) dunams.
     Al-Nayef noted that the two ministries prevented cultivation within the borders of the marshes and space escapes in the governorates of Basra, Diyala, Dhi Qar and Wasit, stressing that “the two ministries obligated farmers and peasants to adhere to the cultivation of the prescribed irrigated areas. Compensation in the event of any damage.”
    He called on everyone to abide by the legal controls in this regard in order to proceed with an agricultural season that contributes to providing the foundations of food security for citizens.
