The Brazilian Ambassador to Iraq, Luis Evaldo Santos, affirmed that there are promising opportunities to enhance relations and economic development between the two countries, especially since Brazil imports 80% of its needs for fertilizers, and Iraq can supply this commodity to Brazil, especially with its large stocks of phosphates.
Santos said in an interview with him: "Brazil has been trying since 2003 until now to restore relations with Iraq to what they were in the past, after they were interrupted due to the Gulf crisis in 1990 and the ensuing conditions of the embargo and others."
The ambassador added that "the Brazilian Minister of Strategic Affairs, Flavio Augusto, visited Iraq recently and met the ministers of defense, industry, minerals and agriculture and the National Security Adviser, and invited them to visit Brazil to see the level of development in those industries of these ministries and the possibility of future cooperation between the two countries."
Santos expects great cooperation in the field of security and defense, "especially that Brazil has large advanced laboratories in the field of defense industries with advanced technology, in light of a very great Iraqi interest in providing this technology."
