    Economy News - Baghdad
Brazilian chicken meat exports to Iraq witnessed a remarkable growth of 118.6% in July 2024, compared to the same period last year.
According to the Brazilian Animal Protein Association, exports to Iraq rose to 15.3 thousand tons, despite one case of Newcastle disease being recorded in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
While imports from Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates recorded a decline, Brazilian exports maintained their growth thanks to the efforts of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
Ricardo Santin, president of the association, noted that the good performance in July helped restore export levels recorded in 2023, expressing optimism that exports would increase in the coming months given the high international demand.
It is worth noting that the ban imposed on some markets due to the Newcastle disease case was the result of an isolated case recorded in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, and was quickly lifted thanks to government efforts.
Santin stressed that the ban did not significantly affect the overall performance of exports.
China, Japan, the UAE, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, the Philippines, the European Union, Iraq and South Korea are the main destinations for Brazilian chicken meat exports.
Newcastle disease appears in the form of respiratory and neurological symptoms and diarrhea, and is transmitted through direct contact with infected birds or their secretions, or through contaminated water, with an incubation period ranging from four to six days and may last up to 15 days.
