President Masoud Barzani discussed, with a high-level delegation from the National Council, the situation of the Kurdish people in Syria, and the latest developments related to their future in the country.

This came during his reception of the delegation, today, Saturday (June 18, 2022), at its headquarters in the Salah al-Din resort in Erbil.

During the meeting, according to the presidency's statement, "they exchanged views on the situation in Syria, and the guest delegation explained the latest developments related to the situation of the Kurdish people and their concerns about the future in Syria."

In turn, President Barzani presented his "notes and advice on the situation of the Kurdish people in Syria," stressing "the need for the Kurdish citizens and people to remain in their homeland and not to leave it and migrate, showing patience and steadfastness."

The Kurdish National Council is part of the political opposition in the Syrian coalition, and its representatives participate in international forums, especially within the mini-committee for drafting the Syrian constitution, which meets in its meetings opposition delegations, the government and independents to draft a new constitution for Syria under UN auspices.

On the other hand, the National Council is a negotiating party with the National Unity Parties that represent the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, where the talks of the two parties were launched within a Kurdish dialogue under American auspices in these days of the year 2020, and despite agreement on some points, they were interrupted and did not Leading to realistic results so far.

The Kurdish National Council is currently in Erbil, in order to coordinate and restructure to hold a comprehensive conference bearing new outcomes after years of delay, in conjunction with a Turkish threat to launch a possible military operation on Tal Rifaat and Manbij, which have been controlled by SDF since 2016.
