    The Endowments and Religious Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives expected, on Thursday, the approval of the official holidays law during the current session, while it suggested that it be called the “Official Holidays and Remembrance Law.”

    Committee member Sherif Suleiman said in an interview seen by Al-Mauma that “this law was long overdue in the listing of previous electoral cycles,” noting that “there is a difference of opinion regarding the Official holidays led to his deportation from the last session to the current one, due to the difficulty in bringing it up in the sessions of the House of Representatives.
    Suleiman added, "Parliament did not agree on a formula for the official holidays, although the holidays in Iraq exceeded what exists in the countries of the world, which affected the conduct and regularity of official work in the departments and the delay in the completion of citizens' transactions related to their daily lives," noting that "" There is seriousness during the current session in resolving this issue and many other files.”
    He continued, "There are fixed national and religious occasions, such as the day of declaring victory over ISIS gangs, or the national holiday of Iraq on the 3rd of October, and the 14th of July to announce the republican system, while the Teacher's Day or the anniversary of the popular uprising will not be official holidays," pointing out that The religious holidays are the first and tenth of Muharram, the Prophet’s birthday and the days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, and the 25th of December on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of Christ.
    Suleiman pointed out that “the exclusion of religious occasions that have become a point of contention between sects and religions, will benefit the economy and production in the country, in addition to the presence of holidays that will be the prerogative of the governorates.” finished/25
