Shafaq News / Political parties and independent deputies revealed the details of a meeting they held Thursday evening in the capital, Baghdad, to discuss recent political developments, and agree to unify a common vision on the next steps.
This came according to a joint statement received by Shafaq News Agency, issued by the Iraqi Communist Party, the Social Democratic Movement, the National House Party, the Nazil Take My Right Movement, the Iraqi Nation Package, the Promise Party, the Iraqi House Movement, the Tishreen Democratic Movement, Representative Sajjad Salem, Representative Daoud Al-Aidan, Representative Nissan Al-Zayer, MP Nidaa Hassan Madi, and MP Muhammad Nouri.
The statement explained, "The participants agreed on the importance of coordinating positions and unifying work efforts in order to get rid of the quota approach, and to propose a democratic political alternative."
The meeting stressed, according to the statement, the necessity of "activating joint action between the gathered forces and independent representatives to build a political path that leads to a radical treatment of the current crisis."
They agreed to "prepare for a broad national conference for the forces of change that establishes the building of the democratic political alternative that the Iraqi people aspire to," calling at the same time, the national forces, independent representatives and representatives of emerging movements, to "active participation in this direction to achieve the desired change."
This comes in the wake of an extraordinary parliamentary session held by the Parliament, headed by Muhammad al-Halbousi, and attended by 202 deputies, which saw 64 new deputies take the constitutional oath, instead of the Sadrist bloc's deputies who resigned last week in response to an invitation from the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr.
