Revealed the revenues of airlines and the number of aircraft returned to service...
    Hussein Faleh:
The Ministry of Transport announced the completion of the initial designs for the railway line, topographic survey and soil investigations for the development road, while revealing the revenues of airlines and the number of aircraft returned to service.
The Director of the Media Office of the Ministry of Transport, Maitham Al-Safi, said in an interview: The initial design phase of the development road project is progressing at an advanced level by the specialized Italian company, and a feasibility study has been prepared in coordination with the competent committees of the relevant ministries and institutions. Stressing: The initial designs for the railway line, topographic survey and soil investigations have been completed.
He added: The next step after completing the initial designs is the final or detailed designs phase. Pointing out that many countries and international companies aspire to be part of the development road project.
He pointed out that these countries and companies have approached the Ministry of Transport regarding the project, stressing: The strategic partner in the development road project is the Turkish side through a memorandum of understanding from which the ministerial council representing four major important countries emerged.
Regarding the work of Iraqi Airways, Al-Safi explained: The number of Iraqi Airways flights last August reached 2,372 flights, which has not been achieved for decades, as there is a noticeable progress in the number of flights from 22 flights to 60 flights, i.e. nearly double.
He pointed out: Since the government assumed its duties, the company's revenues were estimated at 7 billion Iraqi dinars, while now they reach 54 billion Iraqi dinars.
Regarding the file of idle aircraft, he explained: There were 24 idle aircraft, 12 of which were returned during the years 2023-2024, as part of a plan directly supervised by the minister, and three more aircraft will be returned before the end of this year, so that the number of aircraft returned to service will be 15 aircraft out of 24 aircraft, and we plan to return 5 aircraft during the next year, and the remaining grounded aircraft were evaluated as being devoid of economic feasibility, meaning that the file of idle aircraft will be resolved next year.
Earlier, the Ministry of Transport revealed statistics on air traffic at airports during eight months.
The ministry said in a statement: “The General Company for Airports and Air Navigation Management issued statistics on the number of departing and landing flights for the period from January to the end of August 2024,” noting that “the highest landing and departure flights were witnessed by Baghdad International Airport.”
It added that “the number of landing flights at Baghdad International Airport reached (14,081), and the departing flights were (14,377), while the landing flights at Basra International Airport reached 4,515, and the departures were (4,626),” explaining that “Najaf International Airport witnessed (9,366) landing flights, and (9,394) departures.”
