Shafaq News/ The head of the Kurdistan Region Council of Ministers' Office, Omed Sabah, reassured on Wednesday that the federal government will continue to pay the salaries of retirees in the region, in accordance with the Unified Retirement Law, as there is a decision from the Federal Supreme Court (the highest judicial authority in Iraq) obligating Baghdad and Erbil to do so.
Sabah said in a press conference held today in Erbil that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani had formed a committee on retirees’ salaries, and that its members included three representatives from the regional government, indicating that this committee had held three meetings and that the results that emerged from them were very positive.
He stressed that what is more important is that there is a decision from the Federal Court obligating the Federal Government, the Ministry of Finance and the Regional Government to deal with retirees in accordance with the Unified Retirement Law, and accordingly there will be no problems or obstacles regarding the salaries of retirees, adding that work is underway on other technical matters related to the General Retirement Fund, and the issue of the age of the retiree because the age in this law differs from the previous law.
Regarding the issue of resuming oil exports from the Kurdistan Region to the Turkish port of Ceyhan, Sabah said that the regional government has fulfilled all its obligations regarding this matter, and what remains now is related to the Ministry of Oil by providing guarantees to the oil companies operating in the region to pay the actual costs of production.
He stressed that "we have no objection to resuming exports again at any time when the Federal Ministry of Oil is able to convince the oil companies operating in the region and pay the real costs of production."
The head of the office of the presidency of the Council of Ministers of the region continued that the three parties, namely the regional government, the oil companies operating in Kurdistan, and the federal Ministry of Oil, are scheduled to meet to reach a constitutional solution and deal with this file in accordance with the constitutional articles.
