Member of the United Anbar Alliance, Ahmed Abdul-Dulaimi, revealed today, Wednesday, that the matter of electing a new speaker of parliament was decided in favor of Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani after Al-Issawi’s chances of winning the position faltered.
Al-Dulaimi told Al-Maalouma Agency that "most Sunni parties agreed to nominate Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani for the presidency of parliament to end the crisis of political deadlock that created a state of division and estrangement between Sunni alliances and paved the way for complicating the Sunni political scene."
He added that "the Sunni alliances addressed the Coordination Framework forces to express their opinion on the candidate Al-Mashhadani to assume the position of Speaker of Parliament, indicating that" the Sunni alliances are awaiting the response of the Framework forces in preparation for allocating a session to vote on Al-Mashhadani for Speaker of Parliament, explaining that "MP Salem Al-Issawi has withdrawn from the race after a number of political blocs and figures abandoned him."
He added, "Al-Halbousi made contacts with the Kurdish parties, which expressed their approval of Al-Mashhadani." End / 12A
