Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure in the UAE, said that in light of the rapid global changes and the accompanying increase in future global demand for energy (oil), we need more than ever to pump more investments in order to meet this growing demand.
He added that moving to a more sustainable energy future, making the oil and gas sector more environmentally friendly and reducing emissions from its operations, is a major priority for the UAE, which realises that this cannot be achieved without investments in new technologies, such as carbon capture and storage.
In his speech at the 12th Energy Markets Forum hosted by the Emirate of Fujairah, he explained that Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is a pioneer in reducing the carbon footprint of its operations, which supports our goal of reaching net zero emissions by 2050, stressing that today we need to focus more on the ability to afford energy costs as much as we focus on energy security, and that we in the OPEC+ group are working hard to achieve a balance between supply and demand and attract investments.
“At the national level, we are proud to create a model that can be replicated in other countries, starting with the development of the UAE Energy Strategy 2050, which aims to triple the capacity of renewable energy sources by 2030,” he said, noting that the UAE’s renewable energy production today has reached 6 gigawatts, and 5.6 gigawatts from nuclear energy, making the UAE’s grid among the cleanest and most environmentally friendly in the world by 2030, stressing that the UAE aims to raise the total installed capacity of clean energy to 19.8 gigawatts by 2030.
The Minister stressed the importance of the role of the Emirate of Fujairah in ensuring the smooth flow of energy, as it has developed one of the largest fuel supply centres in the world.
