    The United Nations Population Fund in the Ministry of Planning confirmed today, Thursday, the government's preparations to implement the general population census, and while it indicated that the numbering and enumeration of the population exceeded 50%, it confirmed that there is no planning or development without modern statistical indicators.
    The Fund's advisor, Mahdi Al-Alaq, said, "Work is continuing in preparation for the implementation of the general population census, which is one of the largest statistical activities in the history of Iraq after a hiatus that lasted for many decades," noting that "field work has begun to play its role clearly in Iraq."
    He pointed out that "the numbering and enumeration operations exceeded 50% in almost all governorates, and this indicates the real readiness to implement the census," noting that "the numbering and enumeration operations will be built upon in determining the framework of work during the days of the population count."
    Al-Alaq explained that "there are great preparations to begin training 80,000 field researchers from educational, teaching and teaching cadres," indicating that "initial information has been taken about homes and facilities, and they have been numbered to build a comprehensive framework for this process."
    He stressed that "there is no planning or development without the availability of modern statistical indicators, and this is what will be available," explaining that "indicators may be available in general, but the advantage of the census is providing indicators at the level of the smallest administrative formation."
    Al-Alaq continued: “We are looking for education enrolment rates, unemployment rates and accessibility even at the village and district levels after the general population census appears.”
