Shafaq News/ The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc confirmed on Sunday that it had not reached a joint agreement with the Kurdistan Democratic Party, to go to Baghdad with one candidate for the post of President of the Republic.
This comes on the eve of a meeting of the leaders of the political blocs, scheduled to be held on Monday morning, at the parliament building, at the invitation of the Presidency of the Parliament for the purpose of discussing ways to complete the constitutional benefits represented by electing a president of the republic, choosing a new prime minister and proceeding with the formation of the government.
The Rapporteur of the National Union Parliamentary Bloc, Representative Karwan Yaroes, told Shafaq News Agency, "There are dialogues between the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, regarding agreement on a candidate for the position of President of the Republic, and so far there is no final result of these dialogues."
Yarois added, "The National Union owns Barham Salih as a candidate for the presidency, and the Democratic Party owns Reber Ahmed as a candidate for the position, and so far there is no consensus between the two parties on a joint candidate for the position."
The coordination framework, which includes all Shiite forces except for the Sadrist movement, called last Friday for the Iraqi parliament to convene this week and elect a president in preparation for the formation of the next federal government.
Yesterday, Saturday, sources from within the coordination framework revealed some details of their meeting at the home of the leader of the Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, which indicated a split between the Shiite political forces within the framework regarding the nomination of the leader of the Law Coalition, Nuri al-Maliki himself, for the position of Prime Minister of the next Iraqi government.
