Today, Friday, the Ministry of Environment set the date for completing the final draft of the waste management law, indicating that the law includes great facilities, while attributing the reason for not granting approval for the Baghdad Municipality project on waste recycling.

The technical agent in the ministry, Issa Al-Fayyad, said, "The ministry granted in the previous period two approvals for the waste recycling plants, the first in Hilla and the second in Nineveh, and we provided very large facilities to investors," noting that "there is a directive from the Prime Minister to prepare a waste management law, as the final draft It has ended, and next Monday there will be a meeting in the secretariat of Baghdad and in the presence of all concerned to complete the final draft and the paragraphs, after reviewing the Jordanian, Egyptian and Saudi laws, until it is submitted to the Supreme Committee and then sent to the Council of Ministers and the House of Representatives for approval.

He added that "the law includes great facilities, and the waste recycling project was proposed for investment," noting that "the companies that obtained licenses in Babylon and Nineveh have contact with other companies working in this field, which are international companies, and now the facilities, procedures and mechanisms have been reviewed." .

Al-Fayyad expected "the expansion of the project throughout Iraq," explaining that "the law needs time to be enacted."

He stated that "the ministry added one paragraph to the law related to carbon markets and reducing carbon emissions, as we are awaiting directives from the government in this regard," noting that "any company working to reduce emissions, especially that carbon has an international price of 86 euros or 87 euros, the return Either it is for Iraq or for the company, and we are waiting for the government's instructions."

Regarding the volume of waste, Al-Fayyad stressed that "every Iraqi daily produces one and a quarter kilogram of waste, and because Baghdad has 8 million people, the daily waste production will be from 8-10 thousand tons, which are huge quantities that affect the quality of soil, groundwater and other natural factors." ".

Fayadh indicated that "the law will encourage foreign and domestic investment."

And regarding the Greater Baghdad Municipality project, Al-Fayyad confirmed that "the ministry did not give an environmental approval for the Great Baghdad Municipality project regarding waste recycling," attributing the reason to the fact that "the project is close to a residential complex belonging to the Ministry of Industry, and it is not possible to grant approval for such projects close to residential communities." .

And he indicated that "the project remains under discussion as it is inconsistent with environmental laws and instructions."
