On the banks of the "dying great" .. government campaigns remove and destroy licensed agricultural pumps
Shafaq News/ Farmers in Al-Azeem district, north of Diyala, complained about the campaign to raise water abuses on the Al-Azim River separating Diyala and Salah al-Din, which destroyed and removed officially licensed irrigation pumps, while they demanded a review of the mechanisms for lifting abuses and excluding the officially approved pumps from the abuse campaign.
The former head of the Great Council, Muhammad Ibrahim Deifan, told Shafak News Agency; "We are in favor of removing the abuses on the Azim River after its dying and low water levels due to the water crisis to secure water for drinking purposes and to irrigate livestock. However, the abuses affected the owners of licensed and officially licensed agricultural pumps, allocating to them a water share of the Azim River 40 years ago."
and between two guests; "Owners of agricultural pumps issued licenses to install diesel pumps, and because of the high and scarcity of kerosene products, they modified their pumps to operate on electric power despite the electricity crisis and its eternal problems."
Two guests called for reconsidering the campaign of abuses and excluding the owners of licensed pumps and official water quotas in order to avoid huge material losses to farmers and added to the losses of drought, canceling agricultural plans and deteriorating livelihoods.
He added, "Most of the agricultural pumps have become expendable and are not qualified to work with (kerosene) fuel," wondering, "What is wrong with keeping licensed pumps that pay monthly electricity taxes ranging from 500 thousand to one million dinars?"
from his side; The director of the great district, Abdul-Jabbar Ahmed Al-Obaidi, mentioned; The Azim River is dying due to a drop in water levels that do not exceed 7 m3/s, which are quantities that are not sufficient even for drinking or livestock purposes.
Al-Obaidi explained to Shafak News Agency; "The campaign to raise the bypassed agricultural pumps extended along the Azim River and along 30 villages and removed dozens of agricultural pumps that bypassed water rationing and crossing the current and suffocating drought stage."
The Azim River is one of the most important tributaries of the Tigris River, and it is the only river that originates inside Iraqi territory; Where it originates in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate, specifically from the mountains of Skarma Dagh, Tasluja, and Qara Dagh, and flows into the Tigris River to the south of the city of Balad. Tawook Gay, Tuz Gay, and Zghitun Gay. The major secondary tributaries are Kori Gay, Wadi Zakra, and others.
Al-Azim district, 60 km north of Baquba, is the most prominent agricultural area in Diyala.
