Economic expert Nasser Al-Kinani proposed, today, Saturday, a project to dig a navigational canal between the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Gulf, noting that this will return Iraq with 400 billion dollars.
Al-Kinani said, in a press interview seen by “Takadum”, that “the project will work to connect the east with the west through this navigational canal,” stressing that “the revenues of this canal project are not less than 400 billion dollars annually.”
He added, "The navigational canal will be 500 meters wide, 25 meters deep, and 2,500 kilometers long. In three years, it will be ready for international ships to operate in it, in addition to the establishment of factories and tourist and agricultural areas."
He continued, "In terms of financial costs, there will be international companies contributing to its construction and investment in it," pointing out that "there will be a preliminary agreement with the executing companies and countries to dig the canal, and the project will only cost government approvals in a step to reduce dependence on oil as a major resource for Iraq."
He pointed out that "the project will increase the amount of water for Iraq, improve the weather and increase the annual rainfall rate as a result of the evaporation that will occur."
According to observers in the economic affairs, Iraq's continued dependence on oil as a major resource is a very dangerous risk, especially with the explosive budgets that are being approved now, and in light of the efforts of most countries in the world to reduce dependence on oil and the use of alternative energy for the coming years.
