[size=30]While it took 15 years to collect only 48% of its gas production... Iraq wants to stop burning the remaining 52% in only 4-7 years!

    Yes Iraq: Baghdad

There are increasing statements, promises and indications of the need to stop flaring gas in Iraq within the next 4-7 years, amid doubts about the possibility of achieving this matter, especially with the passage of 15 years since the development of the oil industry in Iraq without success except by stopping only 48% of the associated gas produced with oil.
Environment Minister Nizar Muhammad Saeed confirmed in statements that |Iraq is committed not to flaring gas starting from the year 2030,” noting that “the government seeks to integrate the Iraqi private sector with projects to transform the green economy, and its production of clean energy will be 12 megawatts.”
It seems natural to talk about the possibility of operating 12 megawatts of electricity through clean energy, which may be achieved by establishing solar power plants, but until that time, perhaps the production of electrical energy in Iraq will be 35 thousand megawatts, which means that clean energy will constitute only 34% of Electricity production in Iraq.

In general, the statement of the Minister of Environment is linked and identical to the statement of the current Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdel-Ghani, who confirmed that the ceiling for achieving a complete cessation of gas flaring is within 4 years, i.e. during the life of the current government.
"The Ministry of Oil has taken upon itself the responsibility of developing the oil and gas production process and increasing production capacity in line with Iraq's position in the global markets," Abdul-Ghani said during a speech at the Eighth International Exhibition and Conference on Oil, Gas and Energy.
He added, “The Ministry of Oil has plans to invest the associated gas that is being burned now, and there is a plan to invest it, and this plan also guarantees the investment of all gas during the coming years in order to prevent its burning completely,” stressing that “the plan developed within four years will not be gas burning and will have tangible results.” During the first year of the life of the Iraqi government, especially in some southern fields.

Away from the production of electricity, this strategy will not control the burned gas. While Iraq produces 2,700 cubic meters of gas, it invests only 1,300 cubic meters, and burns 1,400 cubic meters, which means that Iraq burns about 52% of the gas produced, and it is not known whether it will succeed in stopping its burning. Within 4-7 years.
According to previous statements by the former Minister of Oil, Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar, there are several existing projects to collect gas and stop its burning, including the Basra Gas Company, which is working to add 600 cubic meters and will be its first target. Halfaya, with a capacity of 300 mqqm, with a completion rate of more than 50%, and all the field facilities in all the oil fields that used to burn gas, whether in the Majnoon field or West Qurna 1, Al-Fayhaa, Al-Nasiriyah, and others, have been transferred. There is a delay in one of the fields, and work is underway to address that.

According to the aforementioned figures, the total amount of gas that will be stopped from being burned and invested will be approximately 1100 cubic meters, out of 1400 cubic meters that Iraq is burning at the present time, which means that about 84% of the burned gas will be invested, and it is not known whether there are other projects to stop the burning of the 300 cubic meters The rest, so that gas flaring will be completely stopped within 4 years, says Minister Hayan Abdel-Ghani.

Iraq is currently investing only 1,300 cubic meters per day, which means that the invested gas can rise to 2,700 cubic meters in the event that its burning is completely stopped, which is less than what Iraq needs to operate its electrical stations, which amounts to 3,000 cubic meters per day, by 10%.
According to the foregoing, questions arise as to whether Iraq can control 52% of the gas burned in 7 years, when it took 15 years to control only 48% of it!
