    Today, Tuesday, the Parliamentary Committee for Women, the Family and Childhood announced the intention to amend the Child and Domestic Violence Laws, and while it identified the most prominent paragraphs of the dispute regarding the Child Law, it indicated that there are religious and political objections to the Family Violence Law.
    The head of the committee, Ibtisam al-Hilali, said in a press statement that "the committee received two laws from the Council of Ministers, namely the Child Law and the Family Violence Law," indicating that "the Child Law has completed its first reading, but there are many objections and disagreements on the law, and we are serious about advancing the law with Make the appropriate adjustments.
    She added that "the aspects of disagreement over the articles of the law is that the child who is abused by his family does not have the right to complain, because that leads to the destruction of the family and the aim of the law is to build the family," noting that "most of the deputies support the abolition of the child's complaint clause against his family, and we are with Building a family within Islamic constants, traditions and social norms, as the law is up for discussion, and there are dialogues and workshops with ministries and civil society organizations.
    She emphasized that "the Ministry of Labor is interested in this law, because there is a section specialized in children in the ministry," pointing out that "the law is concerned with child support, protection, education, and health, and attention to orphan children, and the mechanism for dealing with them, and the preparation of shelters for them."
    And she indicated that "when the law is enacted, there will be financial allocations to find shelters for children."
    Regarding the domestic violence law, Al-Hilali stressed that "the law is very important for building a family, and we are working on it seriously," pointing out that "we have taken all the amendments, and there is interest in the opinions of religious references, because the law affects Iraqi society."
    And she indicated that "the domestic violence law was not read in the parliament, and there is opposition to the provisions of the law, including religious problems and some of them are political," explaining: "We are working to organize the law before it is presented to the parliament for the first reading."
