Today, Wednesday, February 8, 2023, the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received at the Baghdad Palace, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Iraq (UNDP), Aoki Lootsma, who handed His Excellency an official invitation from the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, to attend the Water Conference for Sustainable Development which will be held in New York.
During the meeting, cooperation relations between Iraq and the United Nations were discussed, as discussions focused on a number of issues, most notably the existing fruitful partnership and ways to enhance it in the next stage.
The President of the Republic stressed the importance of activating cooperation in the field of water and transboundary water management, developing and improving the agricultural and administrative situation, and reducing water pollution, as well as the importance of developing capacities for water management in the country.
In his turn, Aoki Lootsma, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program in Iraq, expressed his humanitarian sympathy for the issue of the displaced, stressing the program's readiness to cooperate with the government and the relevant authorities and organizations to enhance their capabilities to face the increasing living pressures of this segment, expressing his thanks and appreciation for the support provided by the President of the Republic to the (UNDP) organization ) and its cadres, in a manner that guarantees the continuation of constructive cooperation in the various fields on which the United Nations Development Program works and which is in the interest of Iraq and its people.
