    The Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee, headed by Representative Hibat al-Halbousi, the head of the committee, hosted, on Wednesday, the Minister of Oil, Hayan Abdel-Ghani, and the advanced staff in the ministry, in the presence of the members of the committee, to review the reality of its work.

    And a statement of the committee, which “NAS” received a copy of, stated (March 1, 2023), “The committee clarified during the hosting that the ministry’s work is very important, as it constitutes the backbone of the Iraqi economy and the main tributary of the state’s general federal budget, which calls for joint action to advance its reality, and stressed the importance of caring for an oil company Basra, being one of the most important pillars of the ministry and working to solve the problems it faces, especially the weak financial allocations, and stressed the need to solve the gas investment file, which the committee did not seek seriously to work on its completion, which requires standing by it and pressing towards its activation to stop the waste of money that Iraq needs.And she noted the necessity of activating safety measures when extracting crude oil to preserve the environment, especially in Basra Governorate, which suffers from significant environmental pollution, wondering about the slow process of developing refineries that works to solve Iraq's import of oil derivatives, and they were surprised by the ministry's lack of interest in this issue that had been developed. The committee has more than one question mark because Iraq is an oil country and imports oil derivatives from other countries.  
      
    The statement added, "In turn, the Minister of Oil explained the importance of joint cooperation between the ministry and the committee and continuous communication in order to find solutions to the problems facing the work of the ministry," stressing that "the Basra Oil Company is one of the most important oil companies, and it owns huge sums of money owed by some Iraqi ministries if it was spent to others." From the reality of her work, noting that there is a scarcity of financing or sometimes a delay in the payment of financial dues, which affects the development of the oil sector.  
      
    And he indicated, "The ministry has a past on the issue of gas investment and has a plan regarding it, and it is one of the priorities of its platform, as it maximizes the state's financial imports," noting that "the ministry pays great attention to the issue of export and reaching high export capabilities for crude oil," adding that "the ministry is working to develop Refineries to improve the reality of their work.  
      
    The statement concluded, "The committee expressed its full support for the minister's steps and the ministry's plan, which the committee reviewed, and stressed that corruption should be struck with an iron fist, stressing its full support for the Ministry of Oil to improve the reality of its work."
