    Baghdad today - follow-up
Today, Friday, the American newspaper "Foreign Policy" called on the West and America to hold the leaders of the Iraqi Kurdistan region accountable instead of supporting them.
The newspaper said in an analysis published and translated by (Baghdad Today) that the Western world and the US government should "hold" the leaders of the Iraqi Kurdistan region accountable, and "use" the internal conditions that the region is now suffering from as a "pressure card" against them.
The newspaper expressed concern about what it said was "a significant increase in violations against human rights issued by the regional government, which led directly to an increase in waves of migration of Kurdish citizens abroad."
And she explained that "corruption within the Kurdistan Regional Government led to the creation of a large class between the elite areas in Sulaymaniyah and Erbil, and the rest of the Kurdish population, who, given their situation, find their truth in contrast to what Kurdistan presented through the media, as a platform for development and an icon of prosperity in the Middle East." .
The newspaper described the conditions of the region since the economic crisis in 2014 until the major differences between the two Democratic parties and the National Alliance today as "one of the reasons that proved that the image presented about the Kurdistan region completely reflects its internal reality."
In the analysis I published, I showed that "between corruption, political conflicts, the absence of economic opportunities associated with widespread unemployment, and the worrisome continuation of violations against human rights, tens of thousands of Kurds are leaving Kurdistan annually, and unfortunately many of them end up dead on the shores of Europe in an attempt to migrate to it," according to described.
"Foreign Policy" indicated that the Iraqi Kurdistan government "has become lacking in democratic legitimacy and is suffering from political and economic disintegration," declaring, "Kurdistan is a house of cards about to collapse."
And she continued by stressing the need for "the United States and Western countries" to use the open support they provide to the Kurdistan government as a "pressure card used to hold officials and the Kurdish government accountable."
The newspaper concluded its analysis by emphasizing that "instead of the open political and military support of the Kurdistan government, the leaders of the West and the United States should hold the Kurdish leaders accountable for corruption and continuous violations against human rights, especially with the loss of the Kurdish authority of its democratic legitimacy."
The Kurdistan region is witnessing a rise in poverty and unemployment rates, as well as a political struggle between the two main parties in the region, which has directly affected the living conditions of Kurdish citizens.
