    The researcher in economic affairs, Hisham Al-Baydani, said on Monday that the government has taken serious steps to compensate for the shortfall in gas and ensure that it is not burned, pointing out that Iraq burns gas by 40 percent, at a value of 8 trillion dinars.

    Al-Baydani told Al-Maalouma, "Iraq is seeking to bridge the gap between the actual need for extracted and imported gas, by offering a new, sixth round of licensing, focusing on promising gas fields in Anbar and Mosul."
    He added, "The new round is represented by 11 exploration blocks, in line with the government's desire to reduce gas imports to the maximum extent during the next three years."
