Today, Wednesday (August 16, 2023), the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, confirmed that Iraq is preparing to run in local elections at the end of this year, indicating the Iraqis' readiness to elect someone to represent them in local governments.
The media office of Al-Maliki stated in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", that "the latter received in his office today the Ambassador of the United States of America, Elena Romansky," noting that "the two sides reviewed during the meeting the future of bilateral relations between the two countries, in addition to the visit of the Iraqi security delegation to Washington recently and keenness Baghdad and Washington to activate the provisions of the strategic framework agreement according to a specific timetable.
The head of the State of Law coalition, according to the statement, pointed to "the importance of continuing cooperation between the two friendly countries in various fields," stressing that "the political and security stability the country is witnessing will contribute to the resumption of the construction process and the entry of major foreign companies," calling on "American companies to work in Iraq, especially in field of energy".
And on the local elections, al-Maliki stressed that "Iraq is preparing to run in local elections at the end of this year, and the Iraqis are ready to elect their representatives in local governments."
For her part, the US ambassador renewed her country's support for the stability of Iraq, stressing the continuation of providing the necessary assistance to the Iraqis within the framework of the strategic framework agreement between the two countries.
