Baghdad / Obelisk Al-Hadath: The Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, said during his visit to Jordan that it is inconceivable for Washington to abandon the Middle East region, considering that Jordan is one of America's closest allies in the world.
Milley added, in an interview with the Jordanian “Kingdom” channel, that “Jordan is one of the best friends of the United States in the Middle East, and that the Jordanian-American military relations are very close.” of the Jordanian Armed Forces.
He stressed that "the Middle East region is very important to the United States, and it is inconceivable that the United States will ever abandon the Middle East."
He pointed out that the number of "American military forces in the region increases and decreases based on the size of the threat," noting in this context that "ISIS and its ideology have not died despite the elimination of its caliphate, and there are some terrorists roaming the deserts of Syria and to some extent Iraq, and this poses a threat to Jordan." .
And stressing that “combating terrorism remains a supreme interest for the United States,” he pointed out that the size of the American forces in Syria is modest and that the departure of the American forces from Syria is a political decision taken by the political leadership.
Milley said, "The American military presence in Syria is to confirm the defeat of the" Islamic State ", saying that the American army is not expanding its military presence in Syria."
On the Iranian issue, Milley stressed that "the United States is committed to ensuring that Iran does not develop a nuclear weapon."
The Jordanian King Abdullah II met General Milley during his visit to Jordan, and during the meeting they discussed ways to develop the partnership between Jordan and the United States in the fields of defense. The meeting also dealt with international efforts to combat terrorism within a holistic approach
