Today, Sunday, the Federal Council of Ministers held its regular session, headed by Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani.
In this session, the Council of Ministers decided to send 700 billion dinars per month for a period of 3 months in the form of loans to cover the salaries of employees in the Kurdistan Region.
Dr. Khaled Shawani, Minister of Justice, who participated in today’s cabinet session, confirmed during a press statement: “We presented this issue to the council table and there were comments and discussions about it by the ministers. There was also sympathy for our request, especially since the issue relates to employees’ salaries, as we referred to... The issue of employee salaries should not be linked to other details in the budget law, and they should be spent like employees in Iraq, regardless of other details in the budget.”
Shawani added: “The Council of Ministers approved the disbursement of 700 billion dinars per month for months 9, 10, and 11, and the Council of Ministers recommended the Ministry of Finance to take the necessary administrative and financial measures to launch the region’s share, starting tomorrow, Monday.”
The Minister of Justice stated: “There will be negotiations and other meetings between the region and Baghdad to settle the entitlements to reach satisfactory results from a financial standpoint based on the federal general budget law. The problem lies in the term actual spending, but by launching the investment budget in Iraq, this problem will end.”
The Minister of Justice explained that President Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, was in constant contact with the leaders of the political parties in Baghdad in order to push their representatives in the Council of Ministers towards approving our request to pay the region’s financial dues. We were also in constant contact with Qubad Talabani, Vice President of the Regional Government, and he was "Eager to address the problem."
The region's delegation requested sending the Kurdistan Region's share for the months (7-8-9-10-11-12) of the current year, which amounts to 4 trillion and 800 billion dinars, at a rate of 800 billion dinars per month
