    Economy News _ Baghdad
The Ministry of Agriculture revealed the possibility of reconsidering the “winter plan” based on the country’s water storage, which suffers from a major shortage of supplies from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, which affected the agricultural situation in general, and caused an increase in desertified lands, while an environmental affairs specialist called for the necessity of developing environmental policies. Sustainable, and optimal use of natural resources, especially water.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mahdi Sahar, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, followed by Al-Eqtisad News, that “the winter agricultural plan for the years 2023 and 2024 was approved in coordination with the Ministry of Water Resources with an area of one million and 500 thousand dunums, relying on tourist irrigation, and was divided into one million and 450 thousand dunums for crops.” Wheat, 37 thousand dunums for barley, and 10,500 dunums for winter vegetable crops, in addition to approximately 4 million dunums depending on wells and groundwater, specifically on modern irrigation systems. Sahar added that “the agricultural areas specified for the winter plan will be reconsidered with The Ministry of Resources during mid-November, depending on the water storage. If the year is rainy, the areas will be increased for the winter agricultural plan.”According to the expectations of the Ministry of Agriculture regarding reconsidering the winter plan, the international specialist in environmental affairs, Khaled Suleiman, pointed out to “Al-Sabah” that climate changes have close links to economic reality, as rising temperatures play a fundamental role in confusing the agricultural side and disrupting many projects. Suleiman warned of “The disastrous effects left by dust storms, which are the disruption of movement in all its forms,” calling at the same time - to confront these disastrous effects on the economy - for the development of sustainable environmental policies, and the optimal use of natural resources, especially water, which should be exploited optimally.Suleiman warned of “the dire effects left by dust storms, which are the disruption of movement in all its forms,” calling at the same time - to confront these dire effects on the economy - for the development of sustainable environmental policies, and the optimal use of natural resources, especially water, which should be exploited optimally.Suleiman warned of “the dire effects left by dust storms, which are the disruption of movement in all its forms,” calling at the same time - to confront these dire effects on the economy - for the development of sustainable environmental policies, and the optimal use of natural resources, especially water, which should be exploited optimally.
