    [rtl]Baghdad - Iraq today:[/rtl]
[rtl]The Parliamentary Services Committee revealed that the federal government had withdrawn the Slum Treatment Law from Parliament before submitting it for a second reading and vote. Committee member Haider Sheikhan said in a press statement, “The slum treatment law included several proposals, the most prominent of which is converting the areas into serviced neighborhoods that are comparable to the neighborhoods in the rest of the areas of the capital, Baghdad, after introducing them to the designs in the municipalities and the secretariat.” [/rtl]
[rtl]Sheikhan added, “Most of the encroached lands that fall within the description of slums belong to the Ministry of Finance and Municipalities, the Municipality of Baghdad, and other state ministries.” He explained, “When the Services Committee received the law, it held many workshops with the relevant executive authorities and developed solutions that would not harm the government on the one hand or the citizen on the other hand.”

He pointed out, “The law was about to be presented for a second reading and the proposals would be matured and then voted on, but the government had a different opinion as it withdrew the draft law.”[/rtl]
