     A government official announced, on Monday, that 98% of the factories in the largest industrial city in eastern Iraq have stopped.

    The director of Bani Saad district (22 km east of Baqubah), Najm al-Saadi, said in an interview with “Al-Ma’louma”: “The latest field survey of the industrial city on the outskirts of Bani Saad district, which includes approximately 400 factories, factories and workshops, showed that 98% of them are stopped and only a number of factories are working.” "It is also a candidate for stopping for various reasons."
    He added, "8-10 thousand workers lost their jobs due to the closure of the city's industrial factories, 95% of which are owned by the private sector," stressing that "weak government support and the flooding of imported imports in the markets are direct factors that led to the factories closing their doors."
    He pointed out that "some factories returned to work three years ago due to popular pressure to support the national product, but they soon closed again due to high costs compared to revenues, in addition to the weakness of service structures, including the continuity of electricity, which made the closure a strong pressure to stop losses."
