    Information/translation..
A report by the European Union's State Watch website revealed, on Wednesday, that the European Union is putting pressure on Iraq to reach a non-binding agreement with the country to return Iraqi refugees illegally in the EU countries and accept deportations there.
The report, translated by the “Al-Ma’louma” Agency, stated, “The European Union Council and its Commission are moving forward with this plan despite the Iraqi government’s announcement during the month of March of this year that it denounced the previous policy of not generally accepting involuntary returns and its commitment to begin cooperation in all fields.” ".
The report added that the “non-binding agreement” requires scrutiny or approval from the European Parliament, unlike the formal readmission agreement, and will come on top of the existing partnership and cooperation agreement between the European Union and Iraq, as well as the threat to impose visa sanctions against immigrants from Iraq, which were under restrictions. Discussion since 2021 when it was decided that the country's cooperation with deportations was "inadequate".
He explained, "The Partnership and Cooperation Agreement includes provisions obligating both sides to 're-admit their illegal immigrants,' while the possibility of the European Union making issuing visas more complex and time-consuming for Iraqi citizens remains under discussion in the Council."
He continued, "The document drawn up by the Union indicates a broad and continuous commitment by the European Union towards the Iraqi authorities at the political and technical level, as a plan was drawn up to exert renewed pressure on Iraq through the secret structure of the document, which aims to coordinate the European Union's efforts in the field of external borders." .
He pointed out that "the Council and the Commission see an additional benefit in an ad hoc agreement between the European Union and Iraq, as it will provide clarity, transparency, and predictability of the process for both parties, and it will also provide the opportunity for European Union member states to manipulate the law," as the document indicates. Ended/25 D
