    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Wednesday (November 1, 2023), the Parliamentary Legal Committee held law enforcement authorities responsible for not implementing the provisions of the Constitution and the law with regard to many societal phenomena and issues, including violence and domestic violence, despite the existence of constitutional and legal articles that address these issues.
Committee member Representative Muhammad Al-Khafaji said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the constitution or laws should not be held responsible for not implementing their provisions, especially with regard to domestic violence,” noting that “the constitution includes clear texts in preserving the family entity and caring for children, youth, and women through... Multiple items.
He added, "The most important problem that must be highlighted is the extent of implementation of what is stated in the provisions of the Constitution through law enforcement institutions concerned with their implementation. If any legislative deficiency is found, a draft law is submitted to Parliament to proceed with its approval according to a vision that addresses many of the problems according to legal contexts."
He pointed out that "the constitution gives general frameworks and does not go into details. There are many laws, some of which are not implemented by the executive institutions. This is a problem that must be dealt with objectively and we must strive to develop mechanisms that push the institutions to implement the contents of the laws."
