Shafaq News/ The Independent High Electoral Commission in Iraq revealed, on Tuesday, a meeting that a delegation from the Kurdistan Region Presidency will hold tomorrow with the Commission in Baghdad to discuss preparations for holding the region’s parliament elections.
Jumana Al-Ghalai, spokesperson for the Federal High Commission, told Shafaq News Agency that the High Elections Commission continues its work in holding the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections on the specified date, which is February 25, 2024, indicating that it has begun its work to register and update voter data in the Kurdistan Region, including those born in 2006.
She pointed to the approval of a number of systems, including the voting, counting and sorting system for the regional parliament elections, and five other systems, including electoral campaigns and the accreditation of local and international observers, the media, and agents of political alliances.
Al-Ghalai indicated that tomorrow, Wednesday, was set as a date to discuss the High Elections Commission’s preparations with a delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Presidency headed by the Chief of Staff of the Regional Government, explaining that the meeting revolves around the Commission’s preparations for holding the regional parliament elections.
Earlier, the head of the coordination and follow-up department in the regional government, Abdul Hakim Khosrow, said that there are a number of administrative and financial procedures prepared by the Kurdistan Regional Government to hold the elections, and he referred to coordination with the Independent High Commission for Federal Elections in this regard. He also stressed that coordination and meetings will continue between sides.
At the beginning of last August, the President of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, Nechirvan, issued a regional decree stipulating that elections for the Kurdistan Parliament be held in its sixth session on February 25, 2024.
