    The phenomenon of many official holidays in Iraq is one of the dangers that paralyze public life, especially with regard to the provision of government services to citizens, and what is related to education, and the economic and general damage that this causes.

    In addition to the weekend on Friday and Saturday, Iraq has more than 10 official holidays approved in the government’s official calendar, starting with New Year’s Day every year on January 1, and ending with the birth of Jesus Christ on December 25. December is the end of the year, and some holidays extend over several days.

    * Schedule of official holidays in Iraq 2024
    * Iraqi Army Day is Saturday, January 6, 2024 AD.
    * Nowruz Day, Thursday, March 21, 2024 AD
    * Eid Al-Fitr, Wednesday, April 10, 2024 AD
    * Labor Day, Wednesday, May 1, 2024 AD
    * Eid Al-Adha, Sunday, June 16, 2024 AD
    * Hijri New Year, Sunday, July 7, 2024 AD
    * July 14 Revolution, Sunday, July 14, 2024 AD
    * Ashura Day, Tuesday 16 July 2024 AD
    * The Prophet’s Birthday, Sunday, September 15, 2024 AD
    * Iraqi National Day, Thursday, October 3, 2024 AD
    * Iraqi Victory Day, Tuesday, December 10, 2024 AD.

    Iraq occupies the forefront of countries in the world in the number of official holidays and the diversity of its national and religious occasions, as well as unofficial holidays imposed by special circumstances, which inflict losses on the state treasury of millions of dollars - for every day of holiday - according to experts, as a result of the failure to compensate working hours in its departments and institutions.

    Earlier, economic expert Nabil Al-Marsoumi said in a blog post followed by Al-Sumaria News:
    *The year = 48 weeks
    *The total number of official holidays in the year (Friday and Saturday) = 96 days
    *The total number of official occasions in the year = 22 days
    *The total number of official holidays in the year = 118 days

    . He added, “In addition to this are religious occasions and emergency holidays such as rain and high temperatures announced by the central government and local governments, which are estimated at about 22 days a year, which is the highest in the world, while there are 8 official holidays in England and Wales, which is considered one of the lowest.” The number of holidays in the world.

    He continued, “The total number of official and unofficial holidays is 140 days, and the total annual working days are 225 days,” noting that “the total salaries of employees, including self-financing and contracts, amount to 70 trillion dinars.”

    Nabil Al-Marsoumi pointed out that The average salary per day amounts to 192 billion dinars, which represents the daily loss from work disruption. As for the total financial losses from unofficial holidays except Friday and Saturday, it may reach 4.224 trillion dinars, and the total financial losses from official and unofficial holidays except Friday and Saturday amount to 8.448 trillion. Dinar".

    Iraqi law granted local governorate governments the right to declare a holiday for the residents of the governorate exclusively as needed, and this has been repeated from month to month in several governorates for various reasons, especially on religious occasions.
