The network of field advisors estimated that Iraq loses about 2.5 billion dollars a month due to official holidays.
Network member Qahtan Al-Hasso stated, "Iraq is at the forefront of countries that disrupt the official working hours of the private and public sectors on various national and religious occasions and for various reasons," noting that "these holidays are causing a clear recession on the one hand, and a significant decline in the educational level on the other hand, not to mention for delaying several important projects in reconstruction and development.
Al-Hasso added, in an interview with the official Al-Sabah newspaper, which was followed by Mawazine News, that "the state cannot advance and develop with this useless number of holidays, with the exception of some necessary occasions due to their symbolism."
The speaker compared some countries in the world to Iraq, explaining that "some countries, such as Sweden, have nine days off annually, while in Germany it is between 10 and 13 days, depending on the state, and in Spain it is 14 days, while Jordan is suspended for 15 days, and Egypt is 16 days a year," adding that "occasions Iraqiya adds sudden holidays often imposed by security, political or religious situations.
According to a member of the Field Experts Network Organization, "economists estimate vacation losses for a full month at more than two and a half billion dollars, if the average employee salary is calculated at least $500 per month depending on the number of employees in Iraq, 5 million employees in various sectors of the country."
