Baghdad/Al-Masala Al-Hadath: The issue of Arab representation in Iraqi governance structures represents an ongoing challenge that attracts public attention. More than two months ago, the leadership of the Iraqi Parliament witnessed a complete absence of Arab representation after the dismissal of the former Speaker of Parliament, Muhammad al-Halbousi, who represents the Sunni Arab community.
Sunni Arab sources speak with interest about this absence, given that the presidency of Parliament is their share, which gives their statements a sectarian and regional character as well.
The political process in Iraq appears to be based on the distribution of representation among the ethnic and religious components, but the absence of Arab representation in Parliament highlights the instability of the political system and the lack of balance between the components of the Iraqi people.
The lack of Arab representation in the leadership of Parliament is a violation of the agreed upon balance of the political system. This absence indicates a failure to achieve justice and representation for all Iraqi components.
The urgent questions are about the lack of action by the Arab majority within Parliament to address this imbalance, and whether this lack of representation reflects the exacerbation of tensions between Iraqi groups? Does this situation reveal deeper imbalances in the Iraqi political system?
In an interview with Al-Masala, political sources believe that this vacuum in Arab representation constitutes a challenge that must be addressed quickly to ensure the continuity of the political system and achieve the required balance in the representation of the various Iraqi components.
Competing parties work to achieve political gains at the expense of balance and national representation, which re-examines the role of institutions in building a state based on citizenship.
