    Economy News - Baghdad
On Saturday, Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani discussed with the Italian company Leonardo the legal issues of Iraqi debts owed to Italy that were inherited since the 1980s.
The Prime Minister's Media Office said in a statement, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that "Al-Sudani received the General Manager of the Italian company Leonardo, which specializes in security, defense and security information systems, Lorenzo Mariani, on the sidelines of his participation in the Munich Security Conference 2024."
The statement added, "During the meeting, the Prime Minister reiterated Iraq's desire for Italian companies to participate in development projects and partnerships with the Iraqi private sector."
He explained, "The meeting witnessed an understanding to solve the company's outstanding problems with Iraq, which were inherited since the 1980s. The meeting reviewed the recent agreement, which was reached under the committee that was formed following the visit of the Italian Prime Minister to Baghdad in December 2022, and is concerned with ending the belongings." "The legal requirements for Iraqi debts owed by Italy, and settling any obstacles to Italian companies' interest in working in Iraq and contributing to development plans and participating in the reconstruction of infrastructure."
