    Al-Sumaria News - Local

After the wave of high prices and high prices that hit the meat markets in Iraq, the poor and low-income people only found the marketing outlets of the Ministry of Commerce to provide their food needs at prices lower than the market.

In the early morning hours, citizens crowd in line in front of the Ministry of Commerce’s marketing outlets distributed in Baghdad and the governorates, to buy food at prices subsidized by the government. At a time when meat prices in regular markets have reached 20,000 per kilo, these outlets offer a kilo of sheep meat for 12,000 dinars, a kilo of veal for 10,000 dinars, while a “layer” of table eggs is sold for five thousand dinars.

As the holy month of Ramadan approached in Iraq, the prices of red meat rose significantly, reaching a rate of increase of more than 35%, jumping from an average of between 12 and 15 thousand dinars, to a new level of between 20 and 23 thousand Iraqi dinars per kilogram, while this is considered... Height is seasonal.

Despite the announcement by the Iraqi government and the Ministry of Commerce to control the prices of most foodstuffs, meat, which is a major food item, especially in the month of Ramadan, has turned into a factor that depletes and replaces stability in the prices of other foodstuffs, thus disturbing price stability.

There is conflicting information and justifications about the reasons for the rise in red meat, but the only certainty is that the reasons are multiple and not one, including high feed prices, limited supply of livestock, and increased demand for them during this period of the year.
