Event: Calls to delete zeros from the Iraqi dinar are repeated from time to time, especially with the deterioration of its value against foreign currencies and high inflation rates. These calls are presented as a panacea to remedy the problems of the Iraqi economy, but the reality is more complex than that.
Economic analyst Ziad Al-Hashemi said, “The issue of deleting zeros and splenting the dinar has become a topic that causes a lot of reflection and controversy in economic circles, and we cannot ignore the great effects that this decision may have.”
He added: “The three zeros of the dinar have become a heavy burden on the Iraqi citizen, as it cost him a lot of his effort and time to deal with these huge values. Moreover, the rise of zeros has increased the weakness of the dinar against other currencies, which makes trade and exchange very difficult.”
In 2010, there were calls to delete two zeros, but they were not implemented.
The Iraqi dinar has lost much of its value due to inflation, which has led to prices soaring.
“Hence, many economists believe that it is necessary to start the process of deleting zeros and sinking the dinar now to achieve several benefits, including getting rid of accumulated inflation pressures and restoring confidence in the dinar,” Al-Hashemi said.
He continued: “However, we should be very careful in this decision, as the process of deleting zeros is not a panacea, but must be accompanied by structural reforms in monetary and fiscal policies and other reforms.”
It has become increasingly difficult to deal with large numbers in financial transactions.
Some believe that deleting zeros would boost confidence in the Iraqi dinar.
Deleting zeros cannot radically solve the problem without sweeping economic reforms.
Deleting zeros exacerbates inflation if it is not properly addressed, and the process of deleting zeros is expensive and needs careful planning.
“Therefore, we must investigate the accuracy and accuracy in making this decision, and the relevant authorities must provide the appropriate conditions and choose the appropriate timing for the successful implementation of the process of deletion of zeros,” Al-Hashemi continued.
“When this is done correctly, we can expect Iraq to become a strong dinar that is considered a store of value, and perhaps even stronger than the dinar that was before 1980,” Al-Hashemi said.

I have to ask though, Has this guy been sleeping? Has he not noticed all the structural reforms by the CBI? At least his conclusion is correct.

Ziad Al-Hashemi doesn't acknowledge what the CBI has already done. I guess its pride. We all have followed each step since Alaq took over. And, we are very close to being completed, which is why he's talking about it. I see this talk as Pseudo education of the public; bringing into the public square the notion of lower denominations, keeping the idea fresh. The CBI has already made its decision as demonstrated in it's orderly progression to the conclusion.
