The Ministry of Construction spokesman, Istabraq Sabah, confirmed on Friday that the upcoming housing projects will serve about 700,000 citizens in Baghdad.
Sabah said in an interview followed by Mawazine News: “We laid the foundation stone for the city of {Al-Jawahiri} in Abu Ghraib, west of Baghdad, and the contract for the city of {Ali Al-Wardi} was signed with the Egyptian investor, which includes 120,000 housing units.”
He added, "Ali al-Wardi City serves more than 700,000 citizens from Baghdad Governorate, and we are awaiting permission from the Prime Minister to lay its foundation stone."
He pointed out that, "Earlier, contracts were signed for the construction of the cities of Al-Ghazlani in Mosul, the banks of Karbala in Holy Karbala, and Al-Janain in Babylon," noting that "meetings are taking place in the Ministry of Construction to sign contracts for new cities in the governorates of Al-Najaf Al-Ashraf, Maysan, and Al-Habbaniya Al-Jadidah in Anbar."
