The government agencies and the relevant parliamentary committees are keen to place the new residential cities under the microscope of surveillance to prevent any violation or financial or administrative corruption in the mechanism of distributing them among citizens, while news comes to mind that speaks of the imminent announcement of the start of applications for the Al-Jawahiri Residential City and concerns. About tampering with the distribution mechanism, especially the segment targeted by these units. A member of the Parliamentary Services Committee, Baqir Al-Saadi, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: The committee will follow the approved mechanism for submitting and distributing housing units adopted by the government, indicating that during the current year the first 4,000 housing units will be received in Baghdad to begin distributing them. Al-Saadi added that the committee will monitor and follow up on the distribution of housing units to prevent corrupt people from taking advantage of the issue, warning that some government departments will be under the supervision of the Prime Minister and the relevant committees to ensure justice and prevent corruption. For his part, economic expert Rashid Al-Saadi told Al-Sabah that initial estimates of Iraq’s need for housing units range between 3.5 to 4 million housing units, and this is due to the size of the population increase, which was set at more than 43 million people and an annual increase of about 800 thousand people to one million population. He pointed out that with the annual increase in population, the need remains constant, so the plan drawn up by the government regarding the housing sector and infrastructure development, if it continues, will have a major role in resolving the crisis, adding that the government must pay attention to the mistakes of the previous Investment Authority in residential complexes. As is the case in the complexes built on the way to Baghdad and Muthanna airports. Al-Saadi stressed the need for plans to be on the outskirts of Baghdad, through the construction of low-cost buildings for people with limited income, and to amend the planning process regarding low-cost buildings similar to the cities of Ali al-Wardi and al-Jawahiri, which is a very excellent step.
