    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Political affairs researcher Muhammad Ali al-Hakim considered today, Saturday (April 20, 2024), that the visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to Washington does not differ from the visits of previous prime ministers to the White House, by avoiding delving into issues that concern the Iraqi people, according to his opinion. On the other hand, the files he talked about actually came during the Sudanese discussions by finding the ground for them.
Al-Hakim told "Baghdad Today", "While attention is directed to the results of the visit of Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani to Washington and its repercussions on the Iraqi reality, the data indicate that it does not differ from the results of the visits of previous prime ministers to the White House because it does not contain within it Delving into files that are useful and important to the Iraqi people, which are considered real crises in the country.”
He pointed out, "The absence of the two most prominent files that Al-Sudani promised to present to the American leaders, which are the absence of the need for foreign forces in Iraq and the liberation of the Iraqi currency from American hegemony and power, which made the visit protocol and nothing more, not to mention that it is a (conditional) visit in advance."
He stated that "the Prime Minister's Office submitted 11 requests to visit Washington, but all of them were rejected by the American administration. However, the 12th time the invitation to the Sudanese was accepted, but it was conditional in exchange for not opening the file of the exit of foreign forces, liberating the Iraqi currency, and opening specific files agreed upon in advance." In a claim that “Baghdad Today” could not verify.
He added, "The Sudanese visit to the White House, which relies on the economic file and the request for American support, and that the delegation, which exceeds 134 people and is considered the largest to visit the United States, was devoid of political and security figures or military ranks from the Minister of Defense, the Minister of the Interior, the Chief of Staff of the Army, and the National Security Advisor, which suggests... The discussion of the international coalition’s mission in Iraq and the departure of American forces was not present during the discussions and did not take up space with the American side, contrary to the promises made by some leaders of the coordination framework that the issue of the withdrawal of American forces would be at the forefront of the discussions between Sudanese and American President Biden.”
Al-Sudani repeatedly repeats that his visit to Washington comes to ensure a shift in the form of the relationship with the United States of America, and not be limited to security and military cooperation, while the visit witnessed the signing of contracts and memorandums of understanding that include many sectors such as electricity, the pharmaceutical industry, and the advancement of the banking sector, which is supposed to lead to an end to demand. The unofficial issue on the dollar, and other files, which Al-Sudani believes are the most important for the Iraqi street, while the political researcher believes that the departure of American forces and “breaking the control over the exchange rate” are the two most important aspects for the Iraqi people.
